I am so excited to show you how to make this stylish pen and pencil holder for your desk! I had so much fun making mine, and I love that it is both fun and functional. Plus, it can corral all of my favorite pens and keeps them in one handy spot! Ready to make your own and dress up your desk? Let’s get started!
* Paper or cardstock in colors/patterns you like
* 3-4 empty paper towel rolls
* A ruler
* Liquid glue, double sided tape, or a tape runner
Step 1: Cut your paper towel tubes into a variety of sizes. Depending on how many different compartments you want in your holder, you will want 3-5 tubes in a variety of heights.
Step 2: Measure your first tube to figure out how long it is from opening to opening. Then, cut your paper so that it is about 6 inches wide by the length you just measured for. (It's really not as complicated as it sounds)!
Step 3: Now, put glue or tape on the back of the strip of paper. Start to slowly roll the paper around the tube, until it completely covers the brown exterior. Cut of any remaining paper.
Step 4: Repeat steps 2-3 until you have finished covering all of your tubes.
Step 5: Arrange your tubes into a composition that you like. Make sure to put taller tubes in the back, and shorter tubes nearer to the front.
Step 6: Place glue on the parts of the tubes that you want to touch in your holder. Press them together so that your tubes are now all attached to each other.
And you are finished with your pen holder! To make it yours, you can experiment with adding more or less tubes, painting the inside of your holder, or adding sequins and glitter to the outside! I had fun adding an angled piece of purple paper to my tallest tube.
Notes: You may want to add a base to your holder for stability. I ended up using paper clips on parts of my penholder to ensure that the paper did not unravel from around my tubes, which you might want to try if you think that will be an issue.
